Hopkins winning streak reaches 10 after sweep

Madelyn Schans is getting the job done for Hopkins both offensively and defensively.

The winning streak for the Hopkins varsity softball team has reached 10.
The Lady Vikings swept a doubleheader Monday against O-K Silver Conference rival Kelloggsville, 12-0 and 15-4.

Junior mound ace Madelyn Schans threw a one-hit shutout gem in the opener, striking out nine batters and walking none.

Meanwhile the Hopkins offebse came up with a dozen hits, with Morgan Dykstra, Maddie Wyngarden, Emma Martonosi, Hannah Wubben, and Schans each racking up multiple hits.

Sierra Smith, the winning pitcher in the nightcp, was clutch at the plate with ducks on the pond, driving in five on three hits, including a double in the fourth and a home run in the fifth. The Lady Vikings  scored nine runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Tori MillerSchans, and Heather Dimock and home runs by Schans.

Smith pitched seven innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out five.

Hopkins had 15 hits : SmithDimockTori MllerHannah WubbenSchans, and  Wyngarden each managed multiple hits. Smith led Hopkins  with three hits in four at bats.

The Lady Vikings now own an overall record of 11-2.
