Hudsonville Unity defeats both Wildcat bowl teams

It was a good night for Wayland freshman bowler Lillian Gates. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a good night for her teammates.

Gates, a southpaw, rolled her personal best of a 156 in one game, but both the girls’ and boys’ squads lost Monday to perennial powerhouse Hudsonville Unity Christian, 29-1 and 26-4, respectively.

Girls’ coach Mike Omness said the Lady Wildcats were hampered by the loss of senior co-captain Amber Beggs, who had to go on the disabled list because of a leg injury she suffered earlier this month. She hopes to be back in action next month after the holiday break.

“Unity did have some good games, but we need to dig deep and find that competitive nature and believe in ourselves!” Omness commented. “I really see a good future for this young team as several of our young bowlers are good listeners and are eager to improve. They are doing what we ask them to do and will get stronger and more experienced as time goes by.”

“There isn’t much to brag about this evening,” boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak said. “Thank goodness we took the second Baker game easily.”
