The Wayland varsity softball team will take a 19-game winning streak into the Centreville Invitational Tournament Saturday.
The Wildcats hiked their overall record to 19-1 on the season with a doubleheader sweep at Coppersville, 8-0 and 18-2.
Leading the Wildcats’ offensive attack in the first game was Kennedy Cole (2-for-4), Kaelyn Sikkema, (2-4), Rya VanderKooi, (2-4) with a double, and Hannah Rairigh with two hits. Adding one hit was Kami Morse with a double, Harmony Laker, Resse Veltman with a double, Grace Kincaid with a double, and Liberty Laker added a single. Jada Mohon added a single, Emma Tornes had a triple and Oakleigh Hulst added a single.
Emma Ludema took the victory again on the mound, allowing just two hits and striking out 17 batters.
Wayland exploded for 18 runs in the nightcap. Leading the attack was Kami Morse with a single, double and two home runs. Emma Tornes went 3-for-4, with two doubles and a triple. Rya VanderKooi was 2-for4 with a double. Kennedy Cole added a home run. Hannah Rairigh and Kaelyn Sikkema each had one hit.
Freshman Harmony Laker took the victory on the mound, allowing four hits.
The Wildcats are 19-1 overall and 8-0 in the O-K Gold Conference standings. Their nearest competitor is Forest Hills Eastern, which has three losses.
