The Wayland High School girls’ bowling team came within three pins of the championship Thursday in the Park Center Holiday Bakers tournamemnt.
The Lady Wildcats qualified second overall out of eight teams.
“All of our ladies contributed today in the efforts,” said coach Eric Bottrall.
Wayland then moved onto match play to face off against East Kentwood and came away with a victory in a two-game total pin Baker match. Then, in the finals they bowled against a very good Cedar Springs team, and after two games of Baker there was a tie 270 to 270.
So it was on to a tie-breaker five frame challenge. It came down to the 10th frame and Wayland ladies fell three pins short.
“It was a great job and the ladies should keep trusting the process,” Bottrall added. “You “They grow from these moments and know that with a spare or two more and we can come away with a victory next time.
In noting the Wildcat boys won their tournament, Bottrall said, “So it was a great day today to be a Wildcat of Wayland. A first and second place finish today is something to be proud of!”
