The Wayland High School varsity softball team will take a 2-1 season record to Muskegon Saturday for the Grand Slam tournament.
The Lady Wildcats earned a doubleheader split Tuesday by beating Rockford 5-4 in the second game after dropping the opener 4-3.
Winning pitcher Emily Bailey went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the nightcap and Lauren Chiaramonte was 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Bailey struck out three batters and allowed five hits.
Ally Longstreet, Kennedy Cole, Bailey and Ava Dutkiewvicz each had a hit for the ‘Cats in the opener and Longstreet’s drove in a run.
Emma Ludema threw the complete game in the loss. She gave us seven hits and walked two batters.
