The Martin girls’ cross country squad captured first place by two points over runner-up Centreville Saturday in the Bloomingdale Invitational.

It was the second time this season the Lady Clippers have claimed an invitational championship.

Four of the five ladies on the team brought home medals. Sophomore Ellie Young led the waywith a fourth-place finish (22:34.48), followed by senior teammate Mercedes Morin at 22:46.50. Senior Zoie Tuinstra completed at 24:10.96 for 13th place and junior Samantha Stone finished in 21st at 24:39.27. Senior Chloe Billington rounded out the scoring at 28:29.29 for a 33rd place finish.

With just three boys for the Clippers in the race, all of them medaled and finished in the top ten. Senior Eli Dykstra completed the course at 19:02.13 for fifth place, followed closely by freshman Alex Morin’s personal best of 19:02.65. Junior James Blackburn finished tenth at 19:44.69.

Martin’s regular season ends Friday, Oct. 22, at the All-Allegan County Meet  at the U.S.-131 Motorsports Park. It will be the Clippers’ last competition of the season before the MHSAA Division 4 Regional Saturday, Oct. 30, at Allendale High School.
