The Martin girls’ varsity basketball team Friday evening completed a perfect 10-0 season in the Central Division with a 40-29 victory over Delton.
The verdict left the Lady Clippers with a 17-4 overall record for the regular season.
“I was a little worried we’d come out slow being that we already clinched the division title and our routine was messed up having a triple header tonight, but we came out fired up,” said coach Ben Schipper.
Martin ran out to a 31-12 lead at half, scoring 20 points in the second quarter. Makala Goddard had 14 of her game-high 16 in the first half.
“Avery Jager had a great game tonight being aggressive from the tip, scoring 8 points while battling foul trouble,” Schipper said. “Marybeth Ritchie also came alive for us in the post scoring 7. Cirsten Coburn, Liz Reinke, and Lynsey Jager all cranked up the defensive pressure like we asked tonight and had many deflections and great defensive possessions. Hailey Snyder and Sam Stone came in and gave us some good minutes tonight as well.
“We’re so proud of the girls for the regular season we have had. 17-4 overall and a perfect 10-0 in our SAC Central division is incredible. Our schedule has been an absolute grind. This division is full of teams who never back down and battle every night. Each win has to be earned, and we did that each game.
“We are battle tested and are excited to be heading into Division 4 tournament play.”
Martin now will compete in the Division 4 district tournament Wednesday at Decatur.
