The Martin girls’ basketball team led Delton throughout all four quarters Tuesday night on the way to posting a 49-28 victory.
The Lady Clippers, who put up 17 points in the fourth period to put the game on ice, lifted their overall season record to 8-6.
“We were very proud of our girls for the hard fought win we had,” said coach Ben Schipper. “It was an extremely physical game and our team did a great job keeping their composure, taking care of the ball, and being patient to get good looks. This was by far our most complete game of the season.”
Martin scored at least 10 points in every quarter in its most consistent offensive effort of the season.
“It was good to see us staying aggressive throughout all four quarters,” Schipper said. “The fourth was our best single quarter of the year. We’ve been preaching having better awareness of your teammates the last few weeks and it finally clicked. We were working so well together, improvising, and reading the defense. It resulted in an offensive explosion.
“The bench was going nuts, girls were playing with extreme confidence, and the positivity was phenomenal in the locker room and on the bus ride home. Tonight was a huge step forward for our team and we’ll see if we can roll it into the last few weeks of the season.”
Maddy Bogdan was credited by her coach for “an awesome game” and led the attack with 14 points. Gracie Shettler added 13.
The Martin boys’ team also emerged victorious Tuesday evening in a 53-39 decision over Delton, improving their overall record to 4-9 and 3-7 in the SAC.
