In a battle between two of West Michigan’s top Class D girls’ basketball teams Friday night, Gobles edged Martin 33-31, on a buzzer beater layup.

The defeat was the first for the Lady Clippers, who reeled off 10 consecutive victories to start the season. Gobles, meanwhile, now is 9-1.

Martin led 10-9 and 16-13 after the first two quarters and the two teams were tied at 22 heading into the fourth period.

Faith Guritz scored 10 points and six 6 rebounds
Jaclyn Hildebrand had eight points, Freddie Elkins eight points and five rebounds, and Bri Warner three points, five rebounds and seven assists.

“Friday night was an incredible basketball game,” said coach Ben Schipper. “Our effort was valiant and I couldn’t be more proud of the girls. We’re excited to get back to work and continue to improve to be the best team we can be at the end of the season.”

The Martin boys lost to Gobles 73-66 in double overtime and their overall record, as a result, slipped to 2-8.
