The Martin girls captured their first win in almost three weeks Monday night in a makeup basketball game, posting a 57-47 decision over Fennville.
At the end of the first quarter, things were looking pretty grim for Martin, down 17 to 9. But efforts from Bri Balder and the Warner sisters, Briana and Kiaya, put the Clippers back on track. Martin scored 17 points in just the second quarter alone while the Blackhwaks were good for just two. At halftime, Martin led 24 to 19 and never looked back, widening the lead to 40-28 after three.
Senior Bri Balder had her best scoring game this season, dropping in 15 points to lead Martin. Court boss Kiaya Warner contributed 13.
Fennville’s Josie Galiger led her team in scoring with 18, Christal Castillo notched 15 points.
The Fennville girls have had a difficult season thus far, winning just one game to carry a 1-15 burden.
With this win, the Lady Clippers sit at 3-6 in the SAC Lakeshore and 8-9 overall this season. Martin will travel Friday for another SAC showdown against the conference leader Gobles.
