The Hopkins girls’ varsity bowling team is 8-0-1 overall and alone atop the O-K Silver Conference standings.
The boys’ team, meanwhile, is 7-2 overall after a 27-3 victory over Wyoming Godwin Heights Wednesday.
The Lady Vikings stayed in first place with a dominating 29-1 win the same day over Godwin. The Viking girls came out firing on all cylinders, taking all 10 Baker points.
In the first head to head match Hopkins girls did a great job taking all matches and total pins. They led 19-0 after the first match.
Hopkins girls were led by Courtney Tortorelli with a 176 game, followed by Hazel Smith’s 155. In the second match, Hopkins girls took 4 of 5 matches. Hazel Smith continued to stay hot with a 231 game, along with Leah Helder rolling a 131 taking her point as well.
The Lady Vikings take on a tough North Pointe Christian team Monday. The Mustangs earlier this season tied Hopkins for its only blemish on its record in dual encounters.
The Hopkins boys did a great job jumping out to a 10-0 lead over Godwin, rolling 201 and a 243 Baker games After the first match Hopkins led 17-2. Taking 3 of 5 match points and total pins, with a 901 series. In the second match Hopkins was able to put every bowler in and there were some impressive games. Hopkins took 4 of 5 matches, with Jon Ryan rolling a 202, and Joe Bala rolled a 237. High scores in the first match came from Mikee Schumacher 204 and Drew Osborn with a 201..
The Viking girls continued their winning streak by beating Belding last Monday. The Hopkins girls took all 10 Baker points. In the first match, the girls took 4 of 5 match points. Hazel Smith, who has been on fire lately rolled a 179 game to take her point. In the second match the high game went to went to Alayna Ryan with a 140 and taking the only point the Viking girls were able to take during the match.
Hopkins girls defeated Kelloggsville 23-7 after spotting the Rockets 6-4 in the Baker games. Hopkins girls took 4 of 5 match points in the first game as well as total pin count. Hazel Smith had a great game rolling a 246 in the first match while Betsy Hyde rolled 201. In the second match the dominance by the Viking girls continued as they again took 4 of 5 match points, with Hazel Smith continuing to bowl well splitting a point with a 201 game. Jenny Rietman rolled a 192 and took a point as well.
