The Hopkins girls’ varsity cross-country team came up with a stellar performance Wednesday afternoon to win the latest O-K Silver Conference jamboree.
Running on the Gun Lake Tribe’s Jijak camp course, the Lady Vikings put together a team score of 50 to outrun runner-up Sparta by five points and third place Belding by seven.
Notable was that senior ringleader Jaeden Harshberger was individual medalist for the day with a five-kilometer time of 20:41.2. Junior Kambrian Moored also finished in the top 10, taking sixth in 21:39.36, and sophomore Allison Breining came through with a 10th-place finish in 22:41.56.
Freshman Lillian Dewey checked in 14th at 23:26.7 and freshman Sutton Collier was 19th in 24:05.21.
The Hopkins boys’ squad, meanwhile, finished fourth.
Sophomore ace Jack Estelle led the way with a 14th place finish in 18:44.72. Kenyon Katje was 19th, Isaiah Robinson 22nd, Merek Zapolnik 31st and Johnathan Buskirk 32nd.
The Hopkins girls took the runner-up slot in the first Silver jamboree earlier this month and it appears the Vikings, Sparta and Belding are in a three-way battle for the league cross-country championship.
