The Hopkins varsitHopkins softbally softball team won three of its first four ballgames of the season this week, sweeping Otsego Wednesday after splitting a doubleheader Tuesday against Parchment.

The Vikings showed some offensive firepower, scoring in double figures in their three victories. They beat Otsego 14-3 and 13-3. Jade Burch had three singles and three runs batted in, Ky Winchester stroked three singles, as Hopkins scored six times i9n the fourth and three more in the fifth, collecting a dozens hits as a team.

Hannah VanDeRoovart led the attack in the nightcap with a homer, a single, a double and four RBIs, Winchester unloaded a double, Lexi Merren had a single and a double, Kelley Kloska homered and singled and drove home three runs, Kristi Lenard came up with a double for two RBIs.

The Lady Vikings had 21 hits in the twin bill.

They opened the season flexing their offensive firepower with a 12-2 victory over Parchment, but lost 6-5 in the nightcap when the Panthers pushed the winning run over the plate in the bottom of the fifth.

Courtney Dusseau led the way in the opener by going 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs, VanDeRoovart had a double, Merren had three singles, Jade Burch a triple and a single with three RBIs and Kloska had a double to drive in two, as Hopkins belted out 15 hits in all.

Merren was the heavy hitter in the nightcap loss with had a home run and a single with four RBIs,
and Winchester and Burch both had a double, but those four hits were all the Vikings could muster.
