The Hopkins softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against state-ranked Vicksburg Friday.
The Lady Vikings put a shock into the Bulldogs by taking a 5-0 lead in the first inning of the first game, but finally gave way 15-10. They seemed to tire in game two after three straight days of playing twin bills, dropping a 17-1 contest.
Hopkins banged out 15 hits in the opener. Shortstop Cami Hibma led the parade with a 4-for-4 performance and three runs batted in. McKenna Funk also drove in three runs with her three hits and her batting average has continued to soar.
Catcher Lyla Reynolds and second sacker K. Burgess both contributed two hits.
Hannah Brinks suffered the loss in the pitcher’s circle.
The Vikings’ offensive charge slowed to.a crawl in the nightcap, as they managed only five hits as a team. K. Williams drilled a homer for Hopkins’ only run. Hibma collected two hits, Ava Vanderkolk unloaded a double and Funk went 1-for-2 to finish the day with a hefty batting average of .455.
Hopkins, now 4-6 overall, next will take on Wyoming Godwin Heights Monday.
