The Hopkins girls’ varsity basketball team’s winning streak came to an end Tuesday evening in a 46-43 non-league loss at home to Plainwell.

The Lady Vikings had put together an eight-game winning streak and they and the visiting Trojans entered the game with identical 9-4 overall records.

Plainwell was able to sink a three-pointer with just seconds left when the score was tied at 43. The Trojans elected to play hot potato, and the ball came to Plainwell’s Paige Timpe, who launched a perfect three-pointer to provide the winning margin.

Hopkins led throughout most of the contest, 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, 28-25 at the half and 41-37 at the close of three periods. However it suffered through a horrible fourth period, scoring only two points while Plainwell notched nine.

Senior center Meghan Schulz led the Lady Vikings with 13 points, Caitlin Rodanhisler contributed 10 and senior guard Brandalyn Helederop dropped in 7 . Heading the effort for the Trojans was Alivia TerMeer with 15 points, and Timpe totaled 7.
The Lady Vikings are still atop the O-K Silver Conference standings and they will be at home at 6 p.m. Friday against league opponent Belding.
