The Hopkins girls’ basketball team has clinched at least a share of the O-K Silver Conference basketball championship.

The Viking boys, meanwhile Friday, had their season record evened at 8-8 with a 79-60 loss to the Rockets.

The Lady Vikings breezed 54-28 past Kelloggsville to lift their league record to 8-1. They have only one more Silver game left, next Friday evening at home against Northpointe Christian. If they win that one, they will capture their first conference outright crown since Hector was a pup.

Going into the last league game, Northpointe and Calvin Christian are 8-2 in league play, having beaten each other and having lost once to Hopkins.

The Lady Vikings wasted little time Friday in disposing of Kelloggsville. They grabbed a 16-8 advantage at the end of the first period and held the Rockets scoreless in the second to enjoy a 32-8 cushion at intermission.

Senior center Meghan Schulz had her second consecutive 20-point, 20-rebound game on offensive with 22 markers and 21 caroms.

Senior guard Brandalyn Helderop and junior point guard Kennedy Helderop both chipped in eight points, and Allie Lenard counted six points.

Kellloggsville was led by Mercedes Chandler with 8 points.

Hopkins, now 12-6 on the season overall, will play a non-league ballgame at home Tuesday against Holland Calvary and will be on the home court again Friday for a league title showdown against Northpointe.
