Lady Vikings closing in on another league track title

Hopkins quartetThe Hopkins girls’ track team took another step toward another O-K Silver Conference championship Tuesday with a convincing 97-38 dual meet victory over NorthPointe Christian.

The Viking boys’ track team meanwhile defeated NorthPointe 92-36 to bring its OK-Silver record to 3-1 on the season. At the same meet, the guys also defeated Wellspring Prep by a score of 99-26.

Tuesday’s verdict left the Lady Vikings with a 4-0 dual meet record with only the league meet Friday, May 13, with NorthPointe as host, as the final hurdle.

The ladies also defeated Wellspring Prep 113-14 in the same meet.

Event winners were:

  • Bailey Ballard, 100-meter hurdles (18.23 seconds) and discus (116-8).
    • Julia Forbes, 100-meter dash (13.02) and long jump, (16-5.5).
    • Laura Velderman, 400 dash (64.33).
  • Emma Helder, 800 (2:31.04).
    • Lexi Merren, 200 dash (28.20).
    • Meghan Schulz, shot put (31-10).
    • The 4×800 relay, Jasmine Fisher, Josie Freybler, Emma Helder, Madison Snoeyink (13:26.46).
    • 4×200 relay, Julia Forbes, Josie Freybler, Laura Velderman, Lexi Merren (1:54.11).
    • 4×100 relay, Savannah Emaus, Brittney Houseman, Laura Velderman, Lexi Merren (54.8).
    • 4×400, Josie Freybler, Emma Helder, Maddie Krcatovich, Laura Velderman (4:43).

In the guys’ meet, winners were:

• Clayton Frank (41-5 in the shot put).
• Logan Blank (16.74 in 110 hurdles and 18-5 in long jump).
• Hayden Graczyk (11.89 in 100 dash).
• Jake Pastoor (5:22.08 in 1600).
• Danny Rausch (57.34 in 400).
• Michael Heppe (44.6 in 300 low hurdles).
• Jake Sytsma (6-0 in high jump).
• Zach Blank (125-7 in discus).
