The Hopkins varsity softball team was riding an eight-game winning streak a week ago, but now has settled back to earth with a 13-6 overall record.
The Lady Vikings dropped both ends of a doubleheader Thursday against Zeeland East, 16-2 and 9-3.
Coach Amy Bishop-Funk lamented, “We went from beating them this past weekend in the Allendale tournament (first game of tourney) to losing… We struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively.”
Madelyn Schans took the loss for in the opener, being tagged for 13 hits and 16 runs while striking out three.
Emily Dimock and Hannah Wubben each had two of Hopkins’ seven hits. Schans, Hannah Wubben, Emma Martonosi, Smith,and Maddie Wyngarden each accounted for the Lady Vikings’ five hits in the nightcap.
Hopkins will play Holland Christian Friday at home for doubleheader.
