The Hopkins girls’ track team continues to work toward its goal of another O-K Silver Conference championship, and Thursday took another step by crushing Wyoming Godwin Heights.

The Hopkins boys, meanwhile, had a much tougher assignment in dropping its contest 76-60.

The Lady Vikings scored 92 team points while running away from the host Wolverines. They won all four relays again and dominated the running events.

Here’s how dominating they were:

  • Going 1-2 in the 100-meter dash with Brittney Houseman (13.1 seconds) and Savannah Emaus.
  • Capturing first and second in the 200 with Houseman (28.5) and Laura Velderman.
  • Taking the top two places in the open 400-meter run with Madeline Krcatovich (70.8) and Cassidy Finney.
  • Sweeping the best three finishes in the 800 with Velderman (3:06), Jasmine Fisher and Alyssa Beilby.
  • Taking first in the 3200 with Fisher in 14:43.6.
  • Going 1-3 in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with Alyssa Rausch (56.1) and Grace Beckwith
  • Going 1-3 in the shot put with the undefeated Meghan Schulz upping the ante to 34-5 and Shannon Henshaw taking third. Schulz won the discus and Henshaw was runner-up.
  • Winning the pole vault with Emaus at 6-0.
  • Going 1-2 in the long jump with Emaus (14-8) and Houseman.

In the relays, it was Emaus, Hannah Crouch, Anna Washburn and Nastaja Terpstra in the 400; Terpstra, Stephanie Bolthouse, Crouch and Houseman in the 800; Velderman, Helder, Macy Krcatovich and Finney in the 1600, and Velderman, Helder, Fisher and Madison Snoeyink.

The Lady Vikings aready have captured the Aquinas Invitational title and they are 2-0 in dual meets.

The Viking boys picked up some key points from newcomers and won three of the four relays to help make the meet reasonably close.

Nathan Roberts came up big in the shot put with a winning toss of 41-10. Freshman Trey Collins was huge in the pole vault, which he won at 8-0. Collins and Logan Blanck tied for second in the long jump at 18-10, Collins was second in the high jump and Blank was runner-up in the high and intermediate hurdles.

Performing strong once again was freshman Todd Henley, who captured firsts in both the 1600 and 3200 distance runs, with Jacob Pastoor second in the former race. Nick Belka had two seconds, in the 400 and 800, as did Carson Timm in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

In the relays, the winners were Michael McKenzie, Hunter Lewellyn, Blank and Timm in the 800; Belka, Adria Serrano, Cyrus Miner and Cole Bergman in the 1600, and Belka, Serrano, Henley and Pastoor in the 3200.

The boys’ and girls’ units will compete in the Gull Lake Relays Friday.
