imgThe Hopkins varsity softball team fell one game shy of winning 25 ballgames for the regular season with a doubleheader split against Allendale Tuesday.

The Lady Vikings were victims of a five-run uprising in the sixth inning, as Allendale captured an 11-6 victory. They came back in the nightcap, however, to win 9-7 and finish the regular campaign with a fine overall record of 24-10.

Hailey Burch threw all 7 innings in the opener, yielding up 13 hits, neither walking nor striking out anyone.

On the offensive side, Courtney Dusseau had a double, Hannah VanDeRoovart smacked a home run, Hailey Burch had a double and Makayla Bulich had a triple.

Morgan Fifelski went the distance on the mound in the nightcap. She gave up 8 hits walked and struck out one batter.

The Lady Vikings had a big five-run rally of their own to overcome a 6-4 deficit in the sixth inning.

Jade Burch had two singles and a double in the bottom of the sixth to score two and put Hopkins up by two. She had 4 RBIs on the day
Dusseau had a double and Kellie Kloska had a solo home run.
“Defensively we were very shaking with a few kids in new positions, but offensively were very strong,” commented Hopkins coach Casey Schoenborn.

The Lady Vikings now are preparing for the Division 3 post-season softball tournament districts.
