The Hopkins girls’ varsity golf team placed eighth among 12 teams in the Michigan High School Athletic Association regional tournament at Willow Wood Golf Course, Portland.
The Lady Vikings, in only their first season competing in the sport, carded an 18-hold score of 464. Wayland checked in ninth in the tournament with a score of 469.
Junior Cayla Szubinski was Hopkins medalist with a 108 and fellow junior Katie Taylor checked in at 117. Andrea Steffes had a 119 and Chloe Billman a 120.
Sophomore Taylor Hoogewind turned in the Wildcat’s best score at 113, freshman Avarie Fenton and senior Summer Morrison both had a 117, Claire Vandenberg a 122 and though she was out of the scoring, senior Kadence Bottrall, easily more recognized as a state quality Wildcat bowler, finished at 129.
None of the girls from Wayland or Hopkins qualified individually for the state championships next weekend.
