The Hopkins offensive attack continued to display plenty of fireworks Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep of nonleague opponent Covenant Christian.
The Lady Vikings pushed their winning streak to eight games with 11-2 and 18-13 victories, improving their overall season record to 8-1.
Freshman Hannah Brinks pitched another gem in the opener, limiting the Crusaders to just five hits, not walking anybody and striking out nine in her nine innings of work.
On the offensive side, Lyla Reynolds crashed a couple of doubles and Megan Andres and Emily Dimock added another. Reynolds collected six runs batted in and Dimock added three and Avery Osborn two.
Reynolds had herself another four-hit game and Sierra Smith, Osborn and Ava VanderKolk had three apiece.
Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first innings and began to pull away in the fifth with a five-run rally.
The Vikings had to come from behind to beat Covenant in the nightcap. They scored six runs in the fifth and a half dozen more in the sixth to overcome an 8-6 deficit.
Reynolds was the ringleader again for the Hopkins offensive attack with three more hits and three RBIs, but Andres sparkled with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate. Madison Schwartz collected three hits and Vanderkolk and Brinks two each. Reynolds and Smith both had a triple.
Hannah Brinks picked up the win on the mound in relief of Smith, though she settled for a gutsy outing yielding 10 hits and seven runs, striking out six and walking one.
The Vikings will return to their home field Thursday afternoon for a nonleague twin bill against Hastings.
