The Hopkins varsity girls’ track team will enter next Friday’s O-K Silver Conference meet with a spotless 5-0 dual meet record while the boys will be 3-2.
The Lady Vikings, ranked No. 7 in this week’s Michigan High School Track Coaches’ Association (MITCA) state-wide Division 3 survey, are out to defend the title. The boys also won the league last year, but suffered heavy graduation losses.
Hopkins girls defeated Kelloggsville Thursday 94-10 to complete the dual meet portion of the league season, but the boys lost to the Rockets by an 86-41 count.
First place finishes in the meet were recorded by:
- Julia Forbes, 100-meter dash, 12.77 seconds, and 200-meter dash, 27.77. Teammate Lexi Merren was runner-up in both races.
- Laura Velderman, 400, 1:05.
- Emma Helder, 800, 2:40.05.
- Jasmine Fisher, 3200 meters, 17:24.39.
- Bailey Ballard, 100-meter hurdles, 18.58, and discus, 119-5.5.
- Meghan Schulz, shot put, 30-5.25. Shelby Henshaw was runner-up in both throws.
- Savannah Emaus, pole vault, 6-0.
- Ballard, Emaus, Brittney Houseman and Merren in the 400-meter relay, 53.92.
- Forbes, Josie Freybler, Velderman and Merren, 800-meter relay, 1:55.66.
- Freybler, Helder, Madeline Krcatovich and Velderman, 1600 relay, 6:02.64.
- Madison Snoeyink, Fisher, Freybler and Helder, 3200 relay, 13:05.34.
For the boys, the winners were:
- Logan Blank, 110-meter hurdles, 16.2.
- Zack Blank, discus, 127-4.5.
- Jacob Sytsma, high jump, 5-10.
Clayton Frank and Zack Blank went 2-3 in the shot put, Chad Tenbroeke was runner-up in the discus and Jacob Pastoor was second in the 1600 meters, as was Hunter Lewellyn in the 200 and Dan Rausch in the 400.
Unfortunately, the Rockets swept all four relays.
