The Hopkins girls’ varsity cross-country team finished fifth among the eight teams in the O-K Silver Conference meet Tuesday at the Ironwood Golf Course in Byron Center.

The boys’ squad was missing from the final team score because it did not field the minimum of five runners.

Sparta won the boys’ meet with 49 points. Calvin Christian took the girls’ competition with 33.

Freshman Helena Kerber again was the brightest spot for the Lady Vikings, finishing ninth in 21:12.08 over the five-kilometer course. Sophomore Neveah Helderop was 28th, Alexis Zalis 30th, Abigail Zalis 35th and Mary Wells 45th.

Trevor Shealy was 31st for the Hopkins boys, in 19:25.22. Caleb Beilby was 38th in 20:02.62, Dean Heiden 59th and Zachary Wisser 61st.
