The Hopkins girls’ varsity basketball team demonstrated again that it is a serious contender for the O-K Silver Conference championship by taking out Kelloggsville Friday night,
67-29.
The boys’ squad, however, suffered its third straight defeat, 69-61 at the hands of the Rockets.
Not only was it the Lady Vikings’ seventh straight victory, their league record improvedto 4-0 and 8-4 overall.
Hopkins will play Northpointe Christian next Friday to complete the first round on the league schedule. If it takes that one, it will be in the driver’s seat for the conference title by defeating all O-K Silver opponents once.
The Lady Vikings again took control early, running out out to a 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and 36-10 at intermission. They coasted the rest of the way.
No fewer than four members of the team scored in double figures. Junior guard Kennedy Helderop led the way with 22 points. Senior center Meghan Schulz added 13, senior forward Mikayla Bulich had 12 and sophomore Evangeline Helderop counted 10.
