The Hopkins girls’ varsity track team improved its O-K Silver Conference dual meet record to 4-0 Thursday at Godwin, but the boys absorbed their first defeat of the season.

The Lady Vikings prevailed 77-59, but the boys lost 81-56.

Senior distance ace Jasmine Fisher won the 800- and 1600-meter runs and Alyssa Beilby won the 3200. Lauren Brown captured the 100-meter high hurdles and the 3200-meter relay team of Tyrell, Fisher, Beilby and Emma Helder won, as did Helder in the open 400.

Hopkins won two of the four relays, as the 1600 also turned the trick.

Another double winner for the day was Savannah Emaus in the pole vault and long jump.

The guys found the going a lot tougher.

Freshman Logan Klinge won the pole vault at 11-6, below his performance Tuesday that was just a half-inch from the school record. He won the 100-meter hurdles, but had to settle for second in the 300.

The Vikings swept the 800-meter run with Todd Henley, Zach Nutter and Dan Rausch. Nathan Tew took the discus at 116-6. Henley also was the winner of the 1600.

Hopkins was devastated by strong Godwin performances in the sprints.

The Vikings now are 3-1 in dual meets.
