Lady Vikings open O-K Silver play with 17-0 win

The Hopkins softball  team bounced back from its twin losses to Hamilton Friday by winning big Wednesday against O-K Silver Conference rival Comstock Park.

The Vikings pounded out 13 hits in just three innings at the plate and took a 17-0 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Brinks faced only seven batters, not allowing a bit and striking out four.

On the offensive side, heavy-hitting sophomore catcher Lyla Reynolds picked up where she left off from 2022 by unloading a triple and a single and Madison Schwartz led the parade with three singles.

Brinks, Cami Him and Peyton Roxbury each drilled a pair of singles. Reynolds and Brinks both collected three runs batted in.

Hopkins scored twice in the first inning, eight times in the second and seven more times in the third.

The nightcap was called off because of inclement weather that rolled in.

Coach Amy Bishop Funk said, “(The game) got delayed due to storm. We were up 10-0 with one out, bottom of the second inning.  We are (regarded as) the home team. The game can’t be finalized until fifth inning or if we were 15 runs ahead in the in third.  We will finish it later in the season if it determine a move in position in our conference standings.”

So Hopkins ended the day with a 3-2 overall season record.
