The Hopkins girls’ track juggernaut blew away the competition Friday at the Watervliet Relays.
The Lady Vikings combined efforts to score 96 points, well ahead of runner-up Berrien Springs’ 68 to run away with the trophy. Sixteen teams competed, with Martin scoring 8 points to finish 12th.
The Viking boys did well in a medley relay and discus and high jump.
The girls’ team medaled in nearly every event, but the following relays finished in first place:
- Discus Relay (Bailey Ballard, Shelby Henshaw)
- Long Jump Relay (Julia Forbes, Savannah Emaus)
- 4×1600 (Emma Helder, Sammy Myers, Madison Snoeyink, Jasmine Fisher)
- Middle Distance Relay (Emma Helder, Maddie Krcatovich, Josie Freybler, Jasmine Fisher)
- Panther Sprint Relay (Bailey Ballard, Josie Freybler, Hannah Crouch, Laura Velderman)
- 4×800 (Emma Helder, Sammy Myers, Madison Snoeyink, Jasmine Fisher)
- 4×400 (Maddie Krcatovich, Josie Freybler, Julia Forbes, Laura Velderman)
The Lady Vikings this season have been runners-up in the Gull Lake Invitational and have won two O-K Silver Conference dual meets, over Calvin Christian and Godwin. They are rated 10th this week in the Division 3 state-wide poll of the Michigan Track Coaches Association (MITCA).
For the boys, Jacob Sytsma and Eliot Fair combined efforts to take second in the high jump relay. Nick Belka, Jacob Pastoor, Zack Reitman and Dan Rausch were fifth in a special medley replay and Clayton Frank and Chad Tenbroeke were fifth in the discus relay.
