The Hopkins varsity softball team played its first games since 2019 Friday and split a doubleheader at Sparta.
lThe Lady Vikings lost 6-3 in the opener, coming up with 8 hits and 2 errors. Rachel Black led the Hopkins offense with a triple and double and two runs scored. Sierra Smith pitched and had 7 strikeouts and 4 walks.
Senior Morgan Dykstra went 3 for 4 offensively in the first game.
The Lady Vikings came back to win the second game 8-6.
Freshmen Dahlia Veldhouse got the win on the mound. With 11 strikeouts, she gave up no walks.
Hopkins had eight hits, with Emily Dimock unloading a double and home run, 2 for 3. Morgan Dykstra led the Lady Vikings with 3 for 3 in the second game as well. She was 6 for 7 offensively for the day.
