The Hopkins varsity softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Thursday against Lowell.
The Lady Vikings dropped the opener 11-2, but rebounded to take the nightcap 8-6.
Sierra Smith, Morgan Dykstra, Emily Dimock, Aubrey Russell and Taylor Augustine each rapped out two singles to pace Hopkins’ 12-hit offensive attack in game two. Dimock had a couple of runs batted in.
Freshman hurler Dahlia Veldhouse overcame a four-run third inning rally by the Red Arrows. She gave up nine hits, walked two and struck out three in going the seven-inning distance.
Lowell broke open a close 3-2 ballgame with two runs in the fifth inning and six in the sixth to run away with game one.
The only Hopkins hits were provided by Augustine, Dimock and Dykstra. Augustine and Aubrey Russell both drove in a run.
Smith absorbed the loss on the mound, with seven of the 11 Red Arrow runs earned.
The split leaves the Lady Vikings with a 9-6 overall record and they are 7-1 in the O-K Silver Conference.
