The Hopkins High School varsity volleyball team is off to an 8-3-4 start on the 2022 season after winning three times Tuesday evening at the Wayland Quad.
The Lady Vikes scored wins over Otsego (18-25, 25-21, 15-11), Hastings (25-15, 25-20) and Wayland (24-26, 25-22, 20-18).
“The girls played with more consistency and battled in a couple very close matches,” remarked coach Terri Wisser.
Individual statistical leaders were:
• Kills: Kate Cleypool 29, Reid Groenhout 17, Lilly Iciek 15, Corrie Wisser 14.
• Assists: Corrie Wisser 66.

The Vikings played six matches at the Lawton Invitational Saturday, Aug. 20 losing in the tournament finals to Bridgman. In pool play they defeated Gobles 21-14, 21-8; Saugatuck 21-20, 21-9, and split with Waterford Lady of the Lake 21-16, 19-21 and Berrien Springs 21-5, 20-21.
They bested Lawton 21-14 and 21-9 in the semifinals before losing to Bridgman 21-19 and 21-9 in the finals.

Hopkins started the season with six matches last week at the WMVOA Invitational at MSA Fieldhouse. The Lady Vikes finished the day with a 2-2-2 record and lost in the Bronze finals to Spring Lake.
In pool play they lost to Allendale 19-25, 16-25 and split with Northview 20-25, 25-19; Spring Lake 25-22, 16-25. They defeated Saranac 25-22, 25-9 and Cedar Springs 25-17, 25-23 in bracket play before bowing to Spring Lake 23-25, 25-19, 7-15
