The Hopkins girls’ track team scored three dual meet victories over O-K Silver Conference opponents Tuesday afternoon and the Viking guys took two out of three.
The Lady Vikings defeated Kelloggsville 119-12, Sparta 84-52 and Wyoming Godwin Heights 98.5 to 33.5. The boys beat Kelloggsville 80.5 to 47.5 and Godwin 81.5 to 44.5, but lost 87.5 to 44.5 to Sparta.
The Hopkins girls showed off some prowess in the sprints. They went 1-3 in the 100-meter dash, with Riley Homrich winning in 12.7 seconds and Peyton Roxbury taking third. Homrich also was second in the 200.
Freshman Lillian Dewey turned in her personal best performance in the 800-meter run and finished third and was fourth in the 1600, just behind Jaeden Harshberger, who also took second in the 3200.
Kambria Moored won the 300-meter hurdles in 49.4 seconds and teammate Andrea Brewer was runner-up. Moored was runner-up, a full second behind Amaya Brown of Godwin, checking in with a time of 16.7 seconds in the 100-meter high hurdles.
The Lady Vikings captured first in the 1600-meter relay in 4:32.7 with Moored, Kate Cleypool, Brewer and Navaya Ingle.
The 400-meter relay quartet of Moored, Ellarie Baugh, Sierra Emaus and Homrich was edged by Godwin by a miniscule one-hundredth of a second, 51.6 to 51.7.
Also settling for second place was the 800 relay team of Ava VanderVeen, Navaya Ingle, Emaus and Homrich, a second and a half off the pace at 1:52.3.
Freshman Keilah Bonga won the discus with a toss of 105.5.25 and teammate Leah Schumacher was second and Bonga checked in second in the shot put.
Harshberger, who qualified for the state meet last year in the high jump, went 5-0 to easily win that event Tuesday.
Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was a winning 8-6 performance in the pole vault by Roxbury.
Ellarie Baugh and Sierra Emaus went 1-2 in the long jump, with Baugh leaping 15-0.25.
Jack Estelle was third in the 1600-meter run, as was Malachi Navis in the 200.
Sophomore Clayton Kerber came through with a first in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.2 seconds.
Teammate Jacob Helder won the 300 hurdles in 42.5 and fellow Viking Kerber was right behind him in 42.7.
Freshman Noah Opolski and junior Joshua Maule went 2-3 in the shot put tosses of 44-5.75 and 44-5.5, respectively. The two went 3-4 in the discus.
Landen Klinge won the pole vault going away by clearing a personal best 13 feet, one inch.
Zac Wierenga took third in the long jump at 17-2.
