The Hopkins varsity volleyball team had its work cut out for it Saturday at the O-K Silver Conference quad. The Lady Vikings set the goal as winning the tournament and earning a share of the league championship.
And they did both.
Hopkins went into the tourney with a 7-1 dual match record, with its only loss to undefeated Calvin Christian. This time the Vikings turned the tables by beating the Squires in the championship round to accomplish the tourney title and tie for the overall crown.
The Lady Vikes started the day by defeating NorthPointe Christian in the semifinals by the scores of 21-25, 27-25, 15-10. In the finals, they defeated Calvin Christian by the scores of 26-28, 25-21, 17-15.
“The match was very intense and the girls fought back from being down 3-11 in the third set,” said coach Terri Wisser. What an amazing comeback!”
Hopkins’ individual statistical leaders were:
• Assists: Corrie Wisser 47.
• Kills: Brianna Miller 34, Corrie Wisser/Lindsey Bulich 12, Avery Roxbury 4, Mady Weber 2.
• Blocks: Corrie Wisser 3, Brianna Miller/Natalie McDonald/Mady Weber 1.
• Aces: Brianna Miller 6, Corrie Wisser 4, Lindsey Bulich 2, Maya Kerber 1.
• Digs: Brianna Miller 26, Corrie Wisser 24, Maya Kerber 15, Sierra Smith 11, Lindsey Bulich 9, Mady Weber 8, Ryley Dykstra 7.
They now own a 17-8 record for the season overall, getting ready for the district tournament.
