The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team Friday qualified for the MHSAA state tournament by placing second in the regional tournament in Kalamazoo.

Coaches Eric Bottrall and Coach Sherry Rybiski Miklusicak (back, center) announced the Lady Wildcats will compete next Friday in Waterford.

Bottrall, a first-year coach, said, “In what has been called the ‘Kalamazoo Curse’ by coach Miklusicak in the past has now been broken by the 2019-2020 ladies team. We have had some talented teams in the past with high hopes of making it to the state finals, but we managed to always come up short as a team. Well, not any more! These ladies dug deep and poured it on the last match with their season high and managed to move back up to second place.”

The girls will get another chance Saturday when they will be bowling in individuals. The top ten girls will move on as well.
