After finishing runner-up in the Wyoming tournament Saturday, the Wayland girls’ varsity bowling squad inaugurated the new Spectrum Lanes addition Monday with a 28-2 dual match victory over Wyoming.

“It was the first high school match to be bowled there!” exclaimed coach Eric Bottrall. “What a cool place to go bowling!”

The boys’ team lost 29-1 to the Wolves.

The beginning Baker games in the girls’ match were taken by Wayland with scores of 157-59 and 144-75. Wyoming fielded only four bowlers and had a tough time.

The ladies rolled well in the first game defeating the Wolves 671 to 382. High scoring bowlers in this match were Bella Harnish and Kadence Bottrall.

The match was over with one game to bowl. Freshman Carlie Anes, who literally just got a new ball drilled, rolled a strike! Lauren Healy saw her first varsity match along with Carlie.

Leading scores for the evening were by Kadence Bottrall 182 and 188 and Bella Harnish 145-148.

However, the boys’ match was nearly as lopsided as the Wayland girls.

“The Wolves are a great team and are very strong with great depth,” coach Sherry Miklusicak said.

Senior Jordan Fitzgerald took the team’s only and lonely point. His second game of 175 was clean, devoid of an open, until the tenth frame

“Junior Alan Beggs is rolling the ball very well as a result of hard work,” Miklusicak said.

“We have a lot of work to do, as we are so young and inexperienced. As long as the boys remain focused and listen, they will see improvements.”
