Lady Wildcat bowlers come from behind to earn 15-15 tie

The Wayland girAlicia Sweeneyls’ varsity bowling team played “catchup” yet again Tuesday, as it rallied from a 10-0 deficit to finish with a 15-15 tie against Hudsonville Unity Christian.

“I am pretty sure the girl’s are trying to short my life span as, for the third time this conference season, they lost both Baker games and spotted Unity Christian to an early 10 point lead,” said coach Bill Holbrook.

Sophomore Alicia Sweeney had a terrific night, shooting 225-231=456 and leading her team back from the deficit.

“They rallied in a hostile environment to win 7 of 9 points, winning the first game 822-803,” Holbrook explained. ” They continued to put pressure on Unity Christian the second game and took 6 of 9 points and winning 795-768.”

By winning both individual games the Lady Wildcats won the 2 points for team 2-game total and scratched out a 15-15 tie and improved their conference record to 4.5-0.5 and overall to 6.5-1.5.  Freshman Sydney Urben fought through some tough situations to throw two solid games (194-187=381) and freshman Marissa Bruinsslot continued her steady improvement throwing two solid games (156-149=305).

“I am incredibly proud of these girls and their ability to fight through negative situations and stick together as a team,” the coach said. ” They never quit and if you are going to beat them, you’re going to have to earn every point you get because they won’t give you any!”

Next up for the Lady Wildcats is the Zeeland Baker Tournament Saturday at Lincoln Lanes.
