The Lady Wildcats bowling team continued its quick start to the season Tuesday with a dominant 27-3 win over Hopkins at Airport Lanes in Wayland.
The ladies won all 10 points in the baker format 157 to 147 and 132 to 122. They continued in the first individual team game winning all nine points, 731 to 583.
Leading the way in game one were sophomores Marissa Bruinsslot (159) and Sydney Urben (177).
The ladies took the last individual game and eight of the remaining 11 points, 726 to 699. Pacing the Lady Wildcats in game two were senior Lizzy Cobb (166) and Bruinsslot (159).
“The bowling tonight was not as good as last night (Monday), with many more missed spares,” coach Bill Holbrook said. “That being said, the ladies fought hard and competed to the very end of each game. Learning to win without your best is an important skill.
“The team is gelling together nicely and learning the importance of team depth. When one or two of the girls struggle the others step in and pick up the slack. Bowling isn’t always thought of as a team sport but in the high school format your team is only as good as your depth and the Lady Wildcats are proving to be a very deep team.”
The pre-conference tournament is next on the schedule at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Spectrum Lanes.
