Harmony Laker has accomplished a rare feat in Wayland basketball history and in prep basketball history for that matter.
Laker, a 5-10 freshman guard, has been selected the first unit of the O-K Gold Conference all-star basketball team, something wasn’t even done by local legends and all-state performers Angie Farmer and Presley Hudson. It just isn’t often that a freshman is named to the all-league team.
She and her sister, Liberty, gained some notice in February for singing the national anthem together just before the start of the Wildcats’ anti-cancer fund-raiser contest against Kenowa Hills.
Harmony also became famous for sinking a three-point field goal attempt at the top of the key as time expired in the district finals to defeat Holland Christian. She scored 20 points in the Wildcats’ regional semifinal victory over Dowagiac.
She and junior Mady Terry were the offensive ringleaders of the Wayland offense in a season that saw the group win its second straight district title and finish with a 15-8 overall record. Terry earned all-conference honorable mention accolades.
Congratulations young lady!
