Wayland High School freshman harrier Olivia Barabas finished in fifth place Thursday at the Allegan County meet to earn all-county accolades.
The Wayland girls’ team finished fourth with 94 points in the meet and Hopkins checked in sixth with 141. The Wayland boys also were fifth and Hopkins, without injured ace senior Todd Henley, did not field a team of five runners.
Barabas checked in with a time of 20:38.88 to to claim fifth. Plainwell senior Makenna Veen won it with a blistering 5K time of 19:19.88 at the Michigan Motor Sports Park just south of Martin.
Teammate Hannah Smith placed 17th, Gracie Hasse 19th, Naomi Oosterhouse 26th and Serenna VanHouten 31st.
Freshman Hannah Fisher paced the Lady Vikings in 24th place, Alyssa Beilby was 25th, Joy Athearn 33rd, Arianna DeGroot 34th and Alexis Zalis 37th.
Freshman Travis Koon paced the Wildcat boys again with a time of 19:10.5, good for 27th. Ian Russell was 36th, Steven Mosher 42nd, Samuel Garheden 46th and Devin Weaver 48th.
Adam Ball led Hopkins at 19:53 in 38th, Zachary Wisser 50th, Dean Heiden 67th and Andrew Hazen 68th.
The Hopkins boys and girls, as well as the Wayland squads, will compete in the Division 2 regionals at Portage Central on Saturday, Oct. 26.
