The Wayland girls’ varsity golf team finished fifth among seven teams in the latest O-K Gold Conference jamboree Thursday with a team score of 208 at Egypt Valley, the home course of Forest Hills Eastern.
South Christian was first in the competition with a 177, followed by Grand Rapids Christian at 182 and the host school at 196.
Wayland was led by three girls all shooting 51 — Alexis Kirschbaum, Hunter Fenton and Lauren Drew.
“This was the first time any of the girls have seen Egypt Valley, so I was happy with the results,” said coach Chris Drew. “We are moving in the right direction and playing tough courses like Egypt Valley will prepare us for the regional tournament.”
Wayland has two more league jamborees next week, Monday at Yankee Springs, home of Middleville Thornapple Kellogg and Wednesday at Orchard Hills, the ‘Cats’ home course.
