Ava Makowski and Olivia Barabas captured the top two individual places in the Wildcat Cross-Country Invitational to highlight the host team’s runner-up finish Tuesday afternoon.

Hamilton won the girls’ competition with 55 points, just edging out the host Wildcats by a single point. Hopkins took fourth with 101 points and Martin was seventh with 148.

Makowski turned in a medalist time of 20:44.13 over the five-kilometer course, Barabas checked in at 21:02.56 and Hopkins freshman sensation Helena Kerber copped third place with a time of 21:43.31..

Rounding out Wayland’s scoring were Hannah Smith ninth, Elliot Antel 10th and Faith Rollandini 37th.

For Hopkins, Neveah Helderop was 21st, Abigail Zalis 22nd, Alexis Zalis 29th and Mary Wells 30th.

Martin was led by freshman Elliana Young 16th, followed by Mercedes Morin 26th, Zoie Tuinstra 35th, Aiala Zamanillo 40th and Chloe Billington 41st.

Hamilton also won the boys’ meet with 50 points, barely touching out Hudsonville Unity Christian. Wayland was fourth with 82 and Hopkins sixth with 148.

Freshman Isaac Dyer was top Wildcat again, taking fourth in 18:09.78, followed by Devin Weaver 12th, Casey Jansen 14th, Cainon Fenn 26th and Jared Jandernoa 39th.

Adam Ball pace Hopkins in 22nd place, Trevor Shealy was 30th, Caleb Beilby 32nd, Zachary Wisser 43rd and Dean Heiden 44th.

Eli Dykstra was 31st and Malakai Vanvolkingburg 40th for Martin, but their scored were not recorded bevcause the Clippers did not field a full team.
