Ava Makowski and Olivia Barabas captured the top two individual places in the Wildcat Cross-Country Invitational to highlight the host team’s runner-up finish Tuesday afternoon.

Hamilton won the girls’ competition with 55 points, just edging out the host Wildcats by a single point. Hopkins took fourth with 101 points and Martin was seventh with 148.

Makowski turned in a medalist time of 20:44.13 over the five-kilometer course, Barabas checked in at 21:02.56 and Hopkins freshman sensation Helena Kerber copped third place with a time of 21:43.31..

Rounding out Wayland’s scoring were Hannah Smith ninth, Elliot Antel 10^th and Faith Rollandini 37^th.

For Hopkins, Neveah Helderop was 21^st, Abigail Zalis 22^nd, Alexis Zalis 29^th and Mary Wells 30^th.

Martin was led by freshman Elliana Young 16^th, followed by Mercedes Morin 26^th, Zoie Tuinstra 35^th, Aiala Zamanillo 40^th and Chloe Billington 41^st.

Hamilton also won the boys’ meet with 50 points, barely touching out Hudsonville Unity Christian. Wayland was fourth with 82 and Hopkins sixth with 148.

Freshman Isaac Dyer was top Wildcat again, taking fourth in 18:09.78, followed by Devin Weaver 12^th, Casey Jansen 14^th, Cainon Fenn 26^th and Jared Jandernoa 39^th.

Adam Ball pace Hopkins in 22^nd place, Trevor Shealy was 30^th, Caleb Beilby 32^nd, Zachary Wisser 43^rd and Dean Heiden 44^th.

Eli Dykstra was 31^st and Malakai Vanvolkingburg 40^th for Martin, but their scored were not recorded bevcause the Clippers did not field a full team.
