The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team annexed its second runner-up trophy this season Friday at the Portage Northern Huskie Invitational at Continental Lanes in Kalamazoo.

Coach Eric Bottrall’s Lady Wildcats qualified third overall, only seven pins short of the top seeded team. They fell short in the finals to Coloma.

The Wayland boys’ squad finished 10th among 14 teams in the tournament.

Freshman Kadence Bottrall (fourth) and Isabella Harnish (fifth) were named to the All-Tournament team. High games were turned in by Lauren Healy 107, Lillian Gates 112, Kendra VanKoevering 153, Haley Taylor 178, Bottrall 197 and Harnish 236.

Coach Bottrall said, “Our boys had a good day on the lanes today. We made some major improvements. They finished in 10th and are going to keep climbing up the board as they grow as team.”

High games today were Deven Gardner 105, Jordan Fitzgerald 128, Stephen Harnish 133, Mark Musgrave 135, Alan Beggs 156 and Max Oosterhouse with a fine 180 game.

“This is such a great group of kids to coach, as they are working hard every day to get better,” Bottrall said.
