Lady Wildcat rollers lose a squeaker to South Christian, 16-14

After a heReverse Wildcat logoctic week of matches being rescheduled and canceled the Lady Wildcats finally had a match Friday at Spectrum Lanes vs. South Christian and lost 16-14.

“This is the first close match since I’ve been coach here that I’m fine with the outcome,” said Wayland coach Bill Holbrook. “That doesn’t mean we didn’t have our chances to win because we most definitely did. It means the girls bowled strong all night and lost a close tight match to a very solid, consistent team in South Christian which bowls very well on its own lanes. ”

The Lady Wildcats split the Baker games, losing the first 170-138 and winning the second, 172-147 but losing Baker total by seven pins. Down 6-4 heading into individual games the Lady Wildcats bowled one of their best team games, but came up short, 833-803.

Down 13-6 the Lady Wildcats continued their strong showing improving on their first game and  winning 827-785 and winning eight of the last 11 points, but coming up just short of the victory.

“This team is really coming into their own and are setting themselves up for a strong run to the end of the season,” Holbrook said.

Leading the Lady Wildcats was sophomore Alicia Sweeney (184-215=399), freshman Sydney Urben (187-211=398) and freshman Marissa Bruinsslot (154-152=306).

The boys’ squad lost to South Christian 24-6.

Next up is a much-needed home match Monday against Potter’s House.

“These girls are so much fun to watch compete,” the coach added.
