The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team continued its dual match winning ways Thursday afternoon with a come-from-behind 16-14 triumph at Byron Center.
For the first time since before Christmas break, the Lady Wildcats struggled mightily in the first two Baker games, falling behind 10-0 after losing 137-126 and 179-126. But then they righted the ship and bowled solid as a team, winning eight of nine in the first individual with no one on the team under 140 and winning 762-744.
They continued their momentum in the second individual game taking eight of the final 11 points and winning the game 698-640.
Pacing the Lady Wildcats tonight were two freshmen, Sydney Urben (166-185=351) and Marissa Bruinsslot (172-136-308). Junior Aubree Hodges contributed with a 140 game.
The victory leaves the Lady Wildcats with a 4-0 record in conference play and 6-1 overall.
Coach Bill Holbrook said, “It was a great win tonight! I am extremely proud of our ladies’ resolve and team work tonight!”
The Wildcat boys’ team recorded a 21-9 victory over Byron Center. Nick Catvrier bowled a 216 and 205 for a total 421 John Fredrick had a game high 200.
Next up will be a tough conference match next Tuesday at Hudsonville Unity Christian.
