The Wayland girls’ track team had a wildly successful season opener Tuesday afternoon by besting both Wyoming and Kelloggsville.
The Lady Wildcats accumulated 88 points, Wyoming had 32 and Kelloggsville 23.
Among the highlights in the meet:
• The 3200-meter relay team of Maggie Whitney, Zoe Antel, Kaitlyn Paul and Captain Riley Shepherd finished first in a time of 11:31.1.
• Lauryn Spencer won the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 17.55 seconds.
• The 800-meter relay team of Jenae Mutschler, Bilger Lauryn Spencer and Santos took first with a time of 2:01.99.
• Whitney was a double winner in the 1600 and 3200, with times of 6:11 and 12:59, respectively, and was followed by Zoe Antel and Kaitlyn Paul.
• The 400 relay with Mutschler, Hasse, Spencer,and Santos won with a time of 58.04.
• Alexys Johnson won the 300-meter low hurdles while Savannah Van Houten won the high jump and took 2nd in the 300H.
• Shepherd won the 800 followed by Kohtz in second.
• Bilger, Hasse, Kohtz and Shepherd captured the 1600-meter relay.
• Captain Brooke Mulder took third in the shot with a lifetime PR of 28’9″ and finished second in disc with a throw of 80′. McKenna Dutkiewicz was close on her heels in both throws.
