The Wayland girls’ varsity cross-country team placed fifth among 12 teams in the Allegan Invitational Saturday.
The boys’ squad finished ninth among a dozen teams with 237 points. Lowell won that race with 35.
The Lady Wildcats accumulated 125 points. Lowell won with 55, Grand Rapids Covenant Christian was runner-up and host Allegan third.
Junior Rylee Cronkright captured fifth place on the Allegan County fairgounds five-kilometer course with a time of 20:36. Senior Zoe Antel was 18th in 21:32.6, just two-tenth of a second away from 17th and less than a second slower than 16th.
Junior Gracie Hasse checked in 23rd, freshman Haylee Jasinski was 29th and freshman Mackenzie VanderWeide was 51st.
Senior Meg Scheske was individual medalist with a time of 19:01.6.
Junior Ian Russell paced the Wildcat boys in 40th place with a time of 19:21.7 and Jarod Geerligs was right behind him in 41st in 19:22.1.
Sophomore Andrew VanBaal was 67th, Christian Courser was 70th and Steven Mosher 75th.
