The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team dropped heart-breaker Tuesday night at Caledonia, 43-41.
It was the first loss of the season for the Lady Wildcats, who had won their first three.
A last second shot by Caledonia’s Anna LoMonaco was the difference in the end.
Wayland cruised to a 10-point lead in the second quarter, but foul trouble plagued them the rest of the half and the Scots were able to close to the gap to four points at the half. The Wildcats were clinging to a three-point lead to start the final quarter and trailed by by one point midway through the period. The lead see-sawed back and forth until the Wildcats tied it at 41 with 24 seconds left. LoMonaco got a rebound off a shot and put it back up just before the final buzzer and the shot rolled in, giving Caledonia the win.
The Wildcats were paced by Ali Cutler with 12 points and Karli Warning had nine and Ali Martus eight. LoMonaco led all scorers with 14 points.
