The Wayland girReverse Wildcat logols’ varsity bowling team had to overcome some adversity this week to win two of three dual match encounters.

The Lady Wildcats bounced back from their tough loss Thursday to Hudsonville Unity Christian with a dominant 26-4 verdict Friday over Hopkins.

“With the flu going through the team this week, we only had six girls available to bowl,” said coach Bill Holbrook.  “This was also their third match in four days, and after a tough conference loss Thursday to Unity Christian, the girls got back on track and came out strong against Hopkins.”

Wayland won the first Baker game 154-153, the second 186-126 and total 340-279 and a quick 10-point lead.  They followed that up with a convincing win in the first individual game, 785-589, and took eight of nine points.  With an 18-1 lead and enough points to secure the win, they finished off the Vikings with a 680-660 win in the final individual game taking eight of the final 11 points.

Pacing the Lady Wildcats was freshman Marissa Bruinsslot (166-167=333), freshman Sydney Urben (174-155=329) and junior Aubree Hodges finally found her shot (157-133=290).

“Hopefully, the weekend will provide the team with some well deserved rest and they return healthy for the final push for the season,” the coach added. “We start the week with three consecutive matches and then prepare for next Saturday’s post-conference tournament.”
