The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team bounced back into the win column Tuesday evening after a terrible week last week.
The Lady Wildcats, stung twice last week by Wyoming and powerhouse East Grand Rapids, tuned back visiting Forest Hill Eastern 52-37 to even their O-K Gold Conference record at 2-2 and push their overall season mark to 9-2.
The boys’ team, however, fell 70-48 to the Hawks to suffer their ninth straight loss without a victory overall this season.
Wayland girls struggled it a bit in the early going, leading only 14-10 after the first period and tied at 23 at intermission. A 17-6 burst in the third quarter widened the gap to double figures and the ‘Cats coasted the rest of the way.
Junior pivot Stephanie Ainsworth again paced the offensive attack with 19 points and junior guard Parrish Hudson drilled a couple of threes and added 12 points. Freshman Maddy Terry counted seven points and junior Katy Anderson added six. Both Terry and Kenzie Wolf nailed a three.
The Wildcat girls will play an important league contest at South Christian at 6 p.m. Friday,
