The Wayland girls’ bowling team scored a convincing 22-8 dual match victory Monday night over Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.

The ladies’ first Baker game of only 122 and lost four points to start the evening. They bounced back with a 169 game and took the four points for that and two more points for the total, 6-4.

Next came individual games, in which the Lady Wildcats claimed 7 of 10 points in match one. Brooke Bixler, Haley Taylor and Lillian Gates took their points and held up anchor bowler teammates.

In game two, anchor bowler, freshman Kadence Bootrall, was not going to let that happen again,  dominating the night with a fine 253, beating out the boys as well for high individual game. The ladies claimed 8 of 10 points this match. Besides Bottrall, Lillian Gates and Haley Taylor took their points for this game.

The Wayland boys’ team lost to TK, 26-4.

“I told the boys it was important to make sure we bowled well in our Baker matches this afternoon, as Middleville averages around 300 pins more than we do,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “The boys responded well and took the first game 183-158, I was pretty happy with how well they bowled as a team.”

However, “splitsville” happened in the second Baker game, putting the ‘Cats behind 6-4.

The rest of the evening was all Middleville.

“They have some very good bowlers who roll really nice balls,” Miklusicak said. “They are very consistent with every shot and they really didn’t throw very many bad balls.

The Trojans’ total was 1952, which is almost an average of 200.

“Our boys are improving every game. as well as our JV bowlers. Drew Kuperus had his high game of the evening on the neighboring pair of lanes with a 142 game. Deven Gardner, Juan Rodriguez, Isaac Bearss, and first timer senior Geary Rookus rounded out the night.

The Wildcat boys and girls will take on a competitive Byron Center squad at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at home lanes, Rock “N Bowl.
